Free Radicals & Antioxidants


That is why we have to depend on our diet in order to get our dose of herbal antioxidants. Herbal antioxidants are of course found in fresh produce, fruits, and vegetables. Because atoms seek to reach a state of maximum stability, an atom will try to fill its shell with electrons by: Gaining or losing electrons to either fill or empty its outer shell Sharing its electrons by bonding together with other atoms in order to complete its outer shell Free Radicals: The Formation The free radicals are formed when weak bonds between atoms are split. Because these substances work on oxygen by-products called free radicals, they have since come to be known as natural antioxidants. A natural antioxidant protects the body against free radicals. One of the many functions of natural antioxidants is to work against the formation of cellular damage caused by free radicals.
